Basing the Guards of Traitor's Toll

This evening proved to be a great experiment and the cause of consternation, talking through options and coming to a reasoned decision.

Bases. Bases for the Guards of Traitor's Toll in particular. With the Green Stuff World roller arrived in the post, I was keen to have a go at adding stonework to the bases of the six Guards I made last week.

The models come on puddles. These, in turn, fit into those lipped base so the feet are flush with the lip.

I had planned to fill the bases with milliput, then roll out some milliput, apply the roller and then place this around the feet of the models.

It didn't work. The stones were too high. The feet were too sunken into the stones it looked stupid.

So I stopped.

There then followed some looking online. I could buy cobblestone bases, cut off the puddle and use plastic glue to weld feet and base together. Great. But where's the magnet? Right, need to buy bases and magnetic discs to stick on the underside.

Other option? Cut off the puddle, milliput inside lip of base, use roller, then let dry and pin and Superglue model to base. That way keep the magnets and bases and no cost.

Then an idea struck..cut the puddle base off, but leave the depth beneath the feet. Milliput the base, use roller to get stone texture. Then place model on base, push into place. Then tidy the milliput around the feet, making sure stones are flush to the feet whilst covering over the bits of puddle base. When it dries, it's rock solid and the model is stuck in place.

So that's what I did.

And in the hopes all this makes sense, here are a couple of photos for you...

Bit scary cutting the puddles off the bases, but I'm super chuffed with the end result. And I'm delighted to have figured this out before I make the remaining 54 models....
